Here is a similar one already solved: Suppose f had been specified by the following table:

x (days)	0	1	2
f(x) (Meals)	-3	5	9

\begin{align*} \text{Average rate of change of } f \text{ over } [0,2] &= \frac{f(2)-f(0)}{2-0}\\ &= \frac{ 9 - (-3) }{2 - 0} = \frac{12}{2} = 6 \end{align*}

Since f is measured in meals, and x is measured in days, the rate of change is measured in meals per day.
